Simple Grafting

I don't know, but I guess some folk are put off tomato grafting by reading about the requirements for a Healing Chamber. Etc.

This year I though I might want to do a late graft of some seedlings so I planted out a rootstock in the garden. When the time came I selected some cuttings from that plant and rooted them into little pots. No special treatment, just placed under the leaf canopy in the (tomato) greenhouse.
 
Once the seedlings were big enough I spliced them onto the rootstock cuttings with cuts at about 45^o and stuck them back under the leaf canopy. I had to use slightly bigger graft clips than normal, because cutting stems are fatter than the seedling stems I usually graft. I left some rootstock leaves on to get them started.

Two of the three grafts took. I've not yet decided whether to excise the axillary buds on the rootstocks (with a scalpel) OR remove the leaves entirely OR just pull any shoots which develop.

Either way, its nice to know I don't have to construct a Healing Chamber for the odd special graft.
