Quote from: William Schlegel on 2023-03-16, 06:33:18 AMI have a small result. I planted 10 cells with a Mission Mountain Morning so F3 generation. The F2 grew in the diversity garden with many varieties and had perhaps the best stigma exsertion of the generation. Of 13 seedlings one is an obvious regular leaf F1 hybrid with an unknown father. Twelve are MMM F3. So 1/13 outcross rate.

I can't wait to plant seed from more deliberate crossing blocks where the father will be known.

It bumped up to 2/13 regular leaf then I gave the whole flat away at the seed swap.

Ken Fisher used to sell three tomatoes that I just got today from a seed saver. Prairie Fire, Fisher's Earliest Paste, and Mountain Boy.

Trying to find more info.

lucky you, to get Fisher varieties.

William Schlegel

Definitely Fisher's work is an important part of Montana's gardening heritage. I don't know that much. Would like to get my hands on an old catalogue and a few other things of his. I think his corn is likely a part of my sweet corn grex from way back.

Fun result. I did a deliberate Dwarf Mocha's Cherry x Mission Mountain Sunrise cross. I thought I had maybe one viable seed and some crud. While some of that crud is germinating! I think I spotted at least sixteen seedlings.

Nice ! Have you acquired fruity and fuzzy from a member of this board or is there a commercial source ?

I'll be growing Tim's taste of paradise and can't wait to taste it !

William Schlegel

A fellow plant breeder sent Fruity and Fuzzy to me and asked me to cross them! Which I shall be attempting!

This is fun the (MMM F1 x Aztek) has height segregation and curved leaves on some seedlings.

I will watch for segregation on my MMM x Aztek. I'm only growing a few plants, but you never know.

I will also be interested to see if I get noticeable segregation on my Sungold F2, which were only taken from one or two F1 plants.

Randy Simmons

I am doing small batches too.  It was cool to pick out the dwarfs.  This time I got 3.  One is sort of Jagodka sized and has 5 tomatoes on it at about 10 weeks old.  Another has one tomato and the third is much smaller and hasn't flowered yet.

Kadence Luneman

Is there an ideal time to sort the seedlings for micro, dwarf, non dwarf?

Diane Whitehead

I have seeds of furry tomatoes from Croatia. I bought them to see if deer would not eat them.

They call them "wooly" and sell 21 kinds.
