I use one dowel about a metre long - knock it in, then place the tomato plant beside it.  When it has matured, I use a strip of that green velcro plant tie to go around the stem.  Dwarfs have only one stem so this is easy to do.

I'm quite willing to use cages, but not stakes or elaborate systems.

So perhaps "minimal support" rather than "support-free"?

A few are self-supporting for me, but I think the clay accumulation layer in my soil may be part of why that works for me.
Western Montana garden, glacial lake Missoula sediment lacustrian parent material and shallow 7" silty clay loam mollisoil topsoil sometimes with added sand in places. Zone 6A with 100 to 130 frost free days
