On my garden land the most standout trees and shrubs are Ponderosa pine, golden currant, and Buffalo berry. It is a difficult site and many others don't do as well.

Of the three Buffalo berry is a nitrogen fixer with the aid of Frankia bacteria.

We have three patches of it. The third is propagated from seed of the first two. I think I would propagate more but there either has not been or I haven't managed to collect fruit in a few years.
