you mention purples,  is that anthocyanin but change to mature colour red/yellow etc.  I am very interested in producing a purple if possible at full maturity. if anyone is aware of a variety or some genetics like green retainer gene but for purple I would be super interested

Purple Marconi is a sweet one. I think there are others like a purple jalapeno

My first custom F1 pepper cross did well this year. I used two separate mothers that were displaying different structure,  and I'm glad I did.

One line ended up having curved pods that stuck out and grew all over the plant and had major sunscald all season since I'm at high elevation. The other had crown set fruit and highly pendulous, which shaded them much better from the sun. The difference in sunscald was striking. I will only be planting seed from the second line. I almost didn't plant it since theoretically they are the same cross from the same two parent varieties. I now know sunscald resistance is high on my breeding and selection pressures and goals.

Oranos F1 was a sweet pepper that did well for me. Escamillo failed completely.

Hi Andrew,
     If your mother plants were phenotypically different it suggests that the parental line wasn't a stable OP inbred one. So the resultant seed isn't technically an F1.
     That's not an issue if you want to take the cross to F2 and beyond. But it is a problem if you ever want to re-create the F1.

I do not want to recreate the f1, but the parent variety is known to not be highly selected to the point where all variation was eliminated as it was meant to be a ristra ornamental pepper. So it is still an OP line, just not an inbred as typical.  The F2 will be much better.
