TSPS question

13 TSPS germinated this spring. I repotted one of them last week and it already had a little root on it, about as big around as a pencil and maybe two inches long. Is that normal this early? I thought it would be months yet before the roots started to develop.

I haven't tracked it specifically but yes I think it is normal for them to start developing storage roots early on. I've often found roots the size of eggs in the drinking cups I use as pots when keeping cuttings overwinter.
How soon they start making good sized storage roots is one of the experiments I haven't done yet. I think it would be a good way to screen for those that do make storage roots and those that are more ornamental or for eating the greens.

Thanks! I was surprised to see a root. The other tiny pot I transplanted didn't have any. Might be interesting to keep the groups separate.
